Look Ma, No IV!

Sorry that I didn't update yesterday. I was just too dadgum tired. I'm sure you understand. Here are the developments since I last wrote. Will had viral meningitis caused by an enterovirus. All of the lab results indicated that he doesn't have a bacterial infection. With those results the doctors felt that is was time to remove the IV. This is great because they had been using a vein in his head for his IV. Apparently veins in babies' arms and legs are small. This makes sense. You never see newborns with bulging bodybuilder veins. That would be freaky. But, babies do have great veins in their heads, so they often get IVs in the head. But anytime you stick something in to someone's scalp you never think, "This is normal, everything is okay." Nope, if you have something stuck in your scalp, you want it out. And the good news is that Will's IV is out. This is also good news because it also means that Will no longer needs to receiving any medication or fluids through an IV.So, now Will is all clear on the breathing/lung front. He is all clear on the meningitis front. He's even wearing clothes. Until now he'd been kickin' it in a diaper and blankets (only because they don't make a Snuggie in his size). Now we are only waiting for him to pick up the strength and coordination to nurse. He still receives milk through a feeding tube in his nose several times a day. We're slowly working on introducing feeding by bottle and nursing. Once he can do this we'll all be home. We're really really really looking forward to that.
As you pray for us, please pray that nursing would just click for Will. We've been told that sometimes the baby will just all of a sudden get it. We're still waiting for that. It can't come soon enough. We also need strength. The longer this more tired we get. It's like we got lined up for a race and the starter pistol went off and we started sprinting. That sprint slowed to a run and then to a jog. Now we're beginning to think that knowing the distance of the race would really help us in pacing.
